CJD Equipment: Umbraco Cloud Dealer Website

Webcoda designed and built CJD Equipment's new website on Umbraco Cloud, so a contractor standing on site can find a machine, compare models, locate the nearest branch and send an enquiry, all from a phone. CJD has distributed construction equipment and trucks in Australia since 1974, from its Perth head office and more than 20 branches nationwide. We delivered the whole project: UX research, design and build.

Designing a Dealer Website for Three Very Different Customers

CJD's customers don't arrive with the same job to do. A fleet manager weighing a move from another brand needs hard evidence before she can take the case to management. An owner-driver buying his first truck from CJD wants clear answers and someone to talk to. A workshop manager isn't shopping for a machine at all: he needs parts or a service, fast, from the branch down the road.

Designing for all three shaped the whole site. Specs and comparison had to be strong enough for the evidence-hunter, the path to a real person had to be short for the first-time buyer, and finding the local branch had to be as easy as finding a new machine. The lesson that ran through all of it: for a dealer, the sale depends on proving the local support behind it.

Product Filters Matched to Each Product Line

Each CJD product line has its own listing pages and filters, because an excavator buyer and a truck buyer don't shop the same way. One set of filters across the whole range would serve neither.

Filters are built around the specs that decide each purchase, so buyers can narrow a large range down to a shortlist before opening a single product. Key features sit on the product pages themselves rather than only in downloadable spec sheets, so they read properly on a phone and can be found by search engines and AI assistants. For buyers who already know the model, site-wide search suggests options as they type, with advanced filtering on the results.

Side-by-Side Product Comparison

CJD's site lets buyers compare models side by side, something few equipment dealers offer. Buyers add machines or trucks to a comparison and see their specifications lined up, so they can weigh up the options in one place instead of flicking between pages.

It's designed for buyers who need hard numbers before they commit, like a fleet manager building the case to switch brands, or an owner-driver choosing a truck that has to handle both tight urban sites and bigger civil jobs. Once they've found the right fit, an enquiry is a click away, and each one captures the product family, enquiry type and nearest branch.

Interactive Map of CJD Branches Across Australia

Locations

For dealer customers, the branch that matters is the one nearest the job. CJD's network runs from capital cities to regional and mining towns, and customers usually need local sales, parts or servicing rather than head office.

An interactive map shows every CJD branch across Australia with its contact details, so customers can go straight to their region and find the closest branch. It's designed for phones as much as desktops, because the people looking for a branch are often in a truck cab or on site rather than at a desk.

Why We Built It on Umbraco Cloud

Umbraco Cloud gave CJD a hosted, managed platform that sits comfortably alongside its Microsoft systems and that its own team can run. Umbraco is built on Microsoft .NET, and Umbraco Cloud hosts, patches and upgrades it on Microsoft Azure, so there's no server for CJD to look after.

Pages are built from a library of content components designed for the project, with master elements and templates that keep every new page consistent with the rest of the site. CJD's team can create and update pages from these on-brand blocks without a developer for everyday changes, and enquiry forms are managed in the same place through Umbraco Forms.

FAQs

At minimum: product listings with filters matched to each product line, key specs on the page rather than only in PDFs, side-by-side comparison, a branch finder and an enquiry option close to every product. It also needs to work well on a phone, because many dealer customers browse from site or the road.

Treat them as different journeys. A buyer needs specs, comparison and a short path to a sales person; a workshop manager needs the nearest branch for parts or servicing, fast. On CJD Equipment's site, finding a local branch is as easy as finding a new machine.

Yes. Equipment buyers decide on specs, and fleet managers often have to justify a purchase or a switch of brand to management. Side-by-side comparison gives them that evidence in one place, and few equipment dealers offer it.

Yes, especially for businesses already using Microsoft. Umbraco runs on .NET, Umbraco Cloud hosts and maintains it on Microsoft Azure, and editors build pages from reusable components, which suits large product ranges and branch networks. CJD Equipment's website runs on Umbraco Cloud.

Webcoda, a Sydney digital agency, delivered CJD Equipment's website end to end: UX research, UX and UI design, and the build on Umbraco Cloud.
