AIPA: A Member Portal Built for Pilots on the Move

AIPA represents more than 2,500 Qantas Group pilots, and most of them are rarely at a desk. Webcoda designed and built one Umbraco platform that runs AIPA's public website and the My AIPA member portal. Membership applications and member reports now go straight into NetSuite.

Built for Members Who Fly

AIPA is run by pilots, for pilots. It handles enterprise agreements and disputes, fatigue and rostering advocacy, legal and welfare support, Loss of Licence cover and a 24/7 help line.

Its members are often in the air, overseas or at a remote port. They need to join, find member information and lodge a report from wherever they are. AIPA's office team needs every one of those submissions to land in one place.

One Platform, Two Front Doors

We built aipa.org.au on Umbraco, using the uSkinned front-end framework for a consistent page library. The same Umbraco instance runs the public website and the My AIPA member portal.

Member accounts live in Umbraco too. Members log in once to reach member-only content and member-only forms. Each membership category, Full, Associate and Cadet, has its own online application.

For a small team, one source of truth matters. AIPA staff edit a page once in Umbraco and it updates on the public site and in the portal. There's no second CMS to keep in sync.

A Custom Theme on uSkinned

We built the front end on uSkinned, a proven Umbraco site builder. Then we created a custom AIPA theme on top of it, so the site looks like AIPA and not like a template.

AIPA's team builds pages in Umbraco from a library of on-brand blocks. The same blocks serve service pages, news stories and podcast episodes, so every page stays consistent.

From Online Form to NetSuite, No Re-keying

AIPA runs its membership on NetSuite. A website that collected forms and left staff to copy them across would have added work, not removed it.

So we connected the forms directly. When a pilot applies to join as a Full, Associate or Cadet member, the application arrives in NetSuite as a new record. It's ready for the membership team to review. Member reports take the same route.

Nothing is retyped and nothing waits in an inbox to be entered. Every application and report lives in one CRM.
